Sacred fires,

Warmth of the hearth fire,

Light of the brilliant sun,

Purify us with your flame,

And let us enter this space

With light and love.

Sacred waters,

Cool waters of the well,

Cleansing waves of the sea,

Purify us with your droplets,

And let us enter this space

With tranquility and peace.

The Core Order of Ritual is something that I utilize regularly in my practice, so I feel like it's important to dive into that ritual structure a little bit and share my understanding of each part, as well as giving an example of what that part of the ritual might look like. Today we continue our discussion by talking about Purification.

Purification is a magical act where we prepare the participants and space for the ritual we are about to perform. While this may include an aspect of physical cleaning, it also involves spiritual and emotional cleansing as well. This may be setting aside negative thoughts and counter-productive energy or simply marking the space and participants as special.

There are a variety of ways this can be completed, but the most common methods in our rituals are through the use of fire, such as cleansing with incense smoke, or the use of water, like washing hands as you enter the space.

The placement of Purification in our Core Order of Ritual may vary slightly. It may happen before the rite is started, or as part of the procession itself. It may also be done after we call to the Earth Mother. The only requirement is that this process takes part sometime before we Open the Gates in our rite.

If you have questions about this step, or any of the other parts of this series, please don't hesitate to ask. Have a wonderful weekend!
