Zeus is the God of Storms, and the king of Olympus, so in my mind he should be honored next. To do his meditation, I decided that replicating the sound of a thunderstorm to do the trance would be most appropriate, but since it is the middle of winter and I can not anticipate a thunderstorm any time in the near future I once again turned to drumming, this time using a recording of a drum circle and broadcast it it through my speakers so I could feel the rumble in my core. I focused on the sounds and my breathing, and soon I could smell the rain and feel it on my skin. Thunder has never frightened me and even as an adult I find myself playing in the rain. This working didn’t invoke strong visions, but by the end of the working I felt refreshed and renewed, as I always do after I’ve danced in the spring rain.
“Mighty Zeus, god of thunder,
and leader of the Olympians,
You who battled the Titans
and fathered so many heroes.
With your name, I work to become a leader in the community.
Come forth and dwell in this space.
“Zeus, patron of hospitality
transforming god of many forms,
You who are the keeper of oaths
and father of Athena, my guide and patron
With your name, I work to keep my oaths.
Come forth and dwell in this place.”
“Through you, may I learn to transform myself.
and through you, may I learn to lead others toward their own.
Through you, may I find comfort in my own abilities
And with you may I learn to adapt to new situations as needed.
Zeus, mighty god,
Come forth and encounter this rite.”
